DIVORCE MEDIATION
Robert J. Hollander, JD, LCSW-C
Mediation minimizes the negative impact
of the divorce process on everyone involved.
Unfortunately, most couples who divorce enter a legal system which
pits them against each other in an adversarial manner. This litigation
process puts additional pressure on the emotionally strained relationship
that typically exists between the spouses and children involved,
and can lead to further negative consequences including:
- Intensified conflict, as each party is guided by attorneys
to “win” at the expense of the other
- The creation of a hostile environment that increases negative
emotions, and escalates the financial and emotional costs to
you and your children
- Giving up control of the divorce terms to attorneys, courts
and judges
- Being forced to abide by a divorce agreement that springs
from bitter conflict and mistrust, and which can lead to an
ongoing lack of cooperation or future litigation
At Mediation with Heart®,
Bob Hollander, mediator, attorney and psychotherapist, helps spouses
come to a fair agreement regarding parenting, support and property
division.
Mediation helps a divorcing couple explore their individual beliefs,
concerns and values and provides a safe environment for them to
work through the anger and anxiety that may stand in the way of
compromise. By helping spouses put aside negative emotions as they
explore their mutually shared interests, the process enables a divorce
agreement to be reached which meets the needs of both spouses. The
benefits of mediation include:
- Reduced financial and emotional costs
- Improved communication and “good will” which
forms the basis for future cooperation
- A reduction in the painful emotions resulting from a difficult
marriage
- A way to protect the children from much of the conflict and
anger
- A reduced likelihood of future litigation
